“[Y]ou would let everybody get married who want to get married. You want to marry a turtle, you can.” - Bill O’Reilly, who has also suggested that gay marriage could ultimately allow for a person to marry “a goat,” “a duck,” and “a dolphin.”

The analogies made about gay marriage as per the “slippery slope” theory are getting out of hand. That’s right Dr. Heimbach, Obama’s support for gay marriage is not only a marriage-plundering ploy to be reelected, but also a movement toward attaining a civil union with ice cream.  At the end of the slope, he might even be able to marry all 31 flavors. At once.

But these statements should not come as a surprise. By denying marriage rights to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals, these bigots are ultimately dehumanizing the gay community. They are redefining human rights as heterosexual human rights, and they are offering the gay person one of two identities: animal, or inanimate object. In doing so, they are revealing themselves as far less human than either of these things.
